A Birthday Escape to Mykonos: Sun, Sea, and Celebration for a Friend 🎉🇬🇷
The second week of September was the perfect time to visit Mykonos. Right after Labor Day is when the island’s wild summer energy starts to mellow just enough to enjoy its beauty without the chaos. The crowds were lighter, but the island’s heartbeat was still there. The great music, laughter, and endless ocean views.
We came to celebrate my good friend Ariel’s birthday, and from the moment I landed, I knew it would be unforgettable.
First Night Magic at Interni
Our first night set the tone. We dined and partied at Interni, and honestly the food was a 10 out of 10, and so were the vibes. The DJ played a mix of house, classics, and international beats, stopping a few times throughout the night as the restaurant staff brought the energy up even higher by drum beating, handheld fireworks, and people spinning their linen napkins in the air. It was the perfect welcome to Mykonos.
Zuma Days and Nights
I also ate at Zuma, both during the day and at night because once wasn’t enough. The atmosphere was effortlessly chic, and there was one potato dish that still has me dreaming. I swear my mouth waters just thinking about it.
One of my favorite parts of the trip was spending a day at Zuma Beach Club. My friend and I booked a daybed so we could lounge out in style. The view was absolutely stunning, endless blue water stretching out in front of us. The DJ kept the energy flowing with great music, we ordered delicious food, and of course took lots of pictures (lol). Hanging out at the beach club is definitely a must while in Mykonos. The vibe, the scenery, and the service make it an experience you don’t want to miss.
Alemagu Evenings
We also tried Alemagu, another popular dinner and party spot. While the food wasn’t my personal favorite but the décor and the beachy-boho vibe were beautiful. It’s definitely worth visiting for the scene alone.
Daytime at Nammos
During the day, we made our way to Nammos, a well-known beach and party spot that perfectly captures the Mykonos spirit — luxury, music, and sun all in one place. I also popped into a few nearby retail shops to check out what was new on the island (because a little shopping never hurt anyone).
A Dream Stay at Santa Marina
I spent the first part of my trip at the Santa Marina Resort, and it was nothing short of spectacular. The resort’s private beach was a dream lined with vibrant yellow umbrellas that brightened the coast and added a pop of joy to every morning. The water was crystal clear, calm, and deeply blue. This is the kind of beauty that slows time down. What I loved most was how peaceful it was. I could lay out, listen to the ocean, and just be. No crowds, no noise, just serenity!
The resort had two incredible restaurants on site: Buddha-Bar, serving delicious Asian cuisine, and Elais, a Greek spot where I somehow found myself eating breakfast every morning (and I’m not a breakfast girl!). The fresh fruit, the local ingredients, and the seasoning was perfectly balanced and flavorful. The herbs and spices blended together in a way that honestly made me rethink my favorite cuisine.
Finishing Strong at Myconian O
For the last few days of my trip, I stayed at Myconian O, and it was the perfect way to end my time in Mykonos. The hotel is effortlessly stylish. A five-star property with suites that feature private pool terraces or balconies. My suite had it’s own seawater pool, and I loved the elegant design that blended modern luxury with natural materials.
The on-site restaurant was beautifully decorated, and the food was just as impressive as the ambiance. The pool area followed the hotel’s signature black-and-white theme, symbolizing night and day — a stunning design detail that made the space feel both bold and serene.
Behind the pool, there’s direct access to Ornos Beach, which is definitely worth spending a day at. Even though I spent most of my time relaxing by the pool, the beach was a beautiful option for a change of scenery.
I didn’t get a chance to use the spa, but I took a peek and it was absolutely gorgeous. There was a salt-rock-inspired cave pool that looked like something out of a dream. The staff was friendly and kind, and the spa products were high quality. It’s definitely on my list to try next time.
One other thing I appreciated was the hotel’s car service — it was super convenient and even a few dollars cheaper than taking Ubers at certain times.
Reflections
Overall, this trip to Mykonos was everything I needed and more. The perfect balance of relaxation, celebration, and pure indulgence. I danced, I dined, I soaked up the sun, and I left feeling refreshed and grateful.
If you’re planning a trip to Mykonos, early September is truly the sweet spot — still lively, but with space to breathe and savor every moment.
Until next time, Mykonos đź’™
